Where do you go for your outside climbing trips? Brevard Rock Gym and Guide Service is under a special use permit from Pisgah Forest and most of our outdoor guided rock climbing trips go to Looking Glass Rock, Pilot Rock, Cedar Rock, or Cove Creek. On occasion we go bouldering at Rumbling Bald, just across the valley from Chimney Rock.
Will we get pictures of our climber’s experience? YES! We do our best to capture as many photos and even short videos of your climber rock climbing in the gym and on their outdoor guided climbing trip. We strive to post pictures on our Facebook Page and in our Gallery at least every other day during climbing camp.
Is rock climbing safe? It’s a fair question. Like any sport or activity rock climbing has inherent risk, risks that at their very core make the activity what it is. However, we are able to attentively manage those risks so that scrapped knees and the occasions twisted ankle are usual the most severe injuries we see from climbing. I always tell clients the most dangerous part of the day is driving to the gym.
What will my climber learn? I feel I could write pages about this question. In short your climber, at the very least, will learn a little more confidence in how their body works and how to use it. Pending the age group we teach a variety of rope skills, belaying, knots, proper spotting technique, movement over rock, and more. The other things that are a little less tangible, but probably more important is that we see our climbers become more confident in them selves, learn to problem solve better, socialize with others, evaluate risk, use judgment, overcome their fears, and much more. It sounds a bit cheesy, but every bit of it is true and truly awesome to watch!
How many kids are in each session? To maintain quality of instruction we keep our staff to camper ratios pretty low. For Lil’ Rockers we have 5 slots per session and the rest of our camps have 8 slots per session.
