Guided Trip FAQ’s
As rock climbing is not quite as widely practiced as say driving a car, we thought we would try to anticipate some of your questions about climbing outside with one of our rock climbing guides. If you still have questions after reading this page just give us a call. 828-884-7625
Is it safe? Rock climbing does have it’s inherent risk, none the less, with the experience of our professional climbing guides that risk is reduced substantially. On any given guided day I confidently tell our clients that the most dangerous part is driving to the climbing site! Just to reiterate, the anchors and ropes we use are strong enough to pick up VW Bug!
Do we need our own rock climbing gear? We provide all the rock climbing gear you will. Including climbing shoes, harnesses and helmets.
What qualifications do your rock climbing guides have? Our Brevard Rock Gym climbing guides have all been rock climbing for years, and know NC rock climbing like the back of their hands. They have all had medical training and are certified American Mountain Guide Association Single Pitch Instructors and above.
How old do you have to be? We have taken kids as young as 4 years old out to the real rock. The climbing is not usually the challenge, but the hike in. For most of our climbing areas the hike in a at least 20 minutes and mostly up hill.
How long is the hike in? The hike in (approach) varies depending which NC rock climbing area we go to. They range anywhere from 20 minutes to 50 minutes. Most all approaches are mostly up hill. Fear not though, our guides, though fit from hiking these trails daily, are patient and can pace appropriately for your group.
How long does the day last? An average guided day starts at 9pm at Brevard Rock Gym and most groups are worn out by 3 or 4pm. We can customize the length and meeting time to meet your needs.
How big can our group? Due to our permit regulations and our desire to maintain optimum quality in service the maximum group size is 13. If you have a group bigger than that we can split your group in two.
Do I need any prior rock climbing experience? No. Our guides have been guiding rock climbing for years and can help individuals of all experience levels and abilities find climbs that fit their needs. We work with families who have only seen climbing in movies, to sport climbers looking to do their first multi-pitch route, from gym climbers heading out West, to experienced climbers looking to try their first 5.11. We are confident we can create a trip for you.
